Overview
The proposed testing protocol will be implemented on both the system-level controlled lab testing and the system-level field trial testing.
- The proposed lab testing will be conducted in two state-of-the-art testing facilities that can perform dynamic testing of sensors and an entire energy system within a controlled environment representing both commercial and residential buildings. A side-by-side comparison between the baseline and the proposed occupancy-based control will be conducted through the unique system setup in Delos’s Well Living Lab™ and PNNL’s Lab Homes.
- For commercial buildings, the proposed field-trial testing will feature occupancy-driven controls specified in ASHRAE Standard 90.1 and Guideline 36 and will be demonstrated with building automation system from three different vendors to ensure adoption diversity and flexibility. Demonstrations will be in three different sub-markets (i.e., office, lodging, academic) with four distinct types of building floor plans (i.e., classrooms mixed with offices, a closed-office layout with conference rooms, etc.). Two climate zones are to be included in the testing. For residential buildings, the demonstration will be in four homes with distinctly different floor plans.
